Our History

The history of The PowerCat Group begins in 2001, when Andrew Brown, a career entrepreneur and composite manufacturing expert, bought into power catamaran company World Cat along with his business partner Chris Brockway. The two used their knowledge of modern manufacturing and management techniques to help the company grow. The secret of WorldCat's success lies in the way Andy and Chris have dedicated the company to giving back to the passionate World Cat customer base, hosting year-round customer events throughout the country.

In 2009, the company grew significantly after the purchase of WorldCat's main competitor, Glacier Bay. With a 23-year history, Glacier Bay is the oldest catamaran manufacturer in the United States, and they've made the science of boating into an art with their high-end cruising boats.

Andrew realized it was time to unite these two lines under one name, and The PowerCat Group was born. However, the company wasn't created just as an umbrella brand for two strong boating legacies: Andrew and Chris are dedicated to growing the overall catamaran market in the United States, and The PowerCat Group is on a mission to introduce boaters to the superior speed, stability, and comfort that cats offer.

With high-performance fishing boats in World Cat and luxury cruising boats in Glacier Bay, The PowerCat Group decided in late 2009 to create a new line of entry-level boats, CarolinaCat. Sturdy and dependable, CarolinaCat boats combine great performance and great value.

In 2010, The PowerCat Group added Livingston's line of dingy boats. Over 75,000 customers have enjoyed Livingston's small power catamarans, which are used as family fishing boats, dinghies, tenders for yachts, and runarounds.

With every segment of the catamaran niche serviced by The PowerCat Group boats, Andrew and Chris have big plans for the future of the industry. They know that, with extensive education campaigns, power catamarans will only grow more popular and more important in the years to to come, and The PowerCat Group will lead the way.

Preserve your investment with a strong resale value (more buyers of used cats than sellers)
It's true, you rarely see a used power catamaran...but only because owners love their boats so much they never want to sell them! Of all the power ...   more »
